I've always wanted to make films that could affect people's lives. I was in such a good mood after listening to "I Am Dog" that I couldn't help but make this film.
In recent years, India has consistently provided us with high-quality content via OTT platforms and YouTube. Short films are a great way to get your foot in the door as a director or even to start your own YouTube channel.
Let it be Imtiaz Ali's "Bruno and Juliet," Farhan Akhtar's "Positive," or Anurag Kashyap's "The Day After Everything." Short films take less time and money to make, but because people's attention spans are shorter these days, they are watched more. Short films have a lot to say, but they all end up sending us a powerful message. On March 30, 2020, a week after the nationwide lockdown, Dushyant Kapoor released his short film "All Men are Dogs."
The film asks the following questions: Are all men dogs?
Is it fair to use that term to describe all men?
“All Men are Dogs” is written entirely from the perspective of a man who has witnessed all of the patriarchy's injustices against women. Even if one person tries to do the right thing, he is still held accountable for all the wrongdoings of other men.
(Dushyant Kapoor with DOP Ananad Badoniya on the set of "I am Dog" also released as "All men are dogs?")
The story has been told in a seamless manner by Bob Barnes' voice-over. Even though the film has no dialogue, the voice-over is beautifully crafted with Lovepreet Singh's Background music. The comments section proves how well this short film has been received, with around 300,000 views. This film is yet another gem from DK Films' resume.
Dushyant Kapoor once again demonstrates that he can produce and direct films that aren't about superheroes but still manage to touch people's hearts.
This lovely film is in honor of his writer's father.
On being asked why Gaurav Dhankhar wrote this film?
If I had just thought of myself as a writer, I honestly believe I would not have been able to write I am a dog. It's always been more of a statement for me than a creative narrative of one man's life. I once overheard a random stranger girl say in a restaurant, "All men are dogs," and I'm not sure why that statement stuck with me. In the coming months, I've noticed that "All men are dogs" has become a common phrase in our daily lives, easily accepted by our society, but we've never stopped to consider how it affects not only us but a future generation.
The second thought that came to mind was that if I were ever to be compared to a dog, I would be proud of it rather than ashamed of it, and in order to do so, I would have to distinguish myself from people who are not deserving of the title.
Because a dog is always by your side, a dog is someone who will always look out for you and be there for you. There are many qualities that dogs possess that humans do not.
So once again, I am Dog.
